Prior to calling, Emma worked as a Procurator Fiscal Depute for 5 years, conducting numerous trials during that time. Emma spent 2 years working as an Indicter in the High Court Unit of Crown Office during that period and has considerable experience of both preparation and presentation of a vast range of criminal cases in the High Court. She regularly carried out legal research on behalf of Crown Counsel whilst within Crown Office. In particular, Emma has extensive experience of cases involving sexual offences, drugs offences and criminal cases involving deaths, including Health and Safety cases and cases brought under sections 1 and 3A of the Road Traffic Act.

Emma is regularly instructed in the High Court, Sheriff Court and Appeal Court, both as sole Counsel and as Junior Counsel to Senior. She is also regularly instructed in reparation actions and Fatal Accident Inquiries, including the Rosepark Fatal Accident Inquiry, the longest Fatal Accident Inquiry ever to run in Scotland, where she represented a nurse.

Emma was awarded a Scholarship from the Faculty of Advocates during her devilling year.
