John Hamilton QC is one of the most experienced criminal advocates in Scotland. He has consistently been instructed in high profile criminal work and now as senior counsel deals almost exclusively in high end, complex criminal work. His experience as an Advocate Depute means that he has dealt with a significant number of murder cases, rape cases and high value drugs cases as leader. He has extensive experience in the appeal court for both appellants and the Crown.

John’s experience as a Convenor of the Mental Health Tribunal for Scotland gives him particular experience in this field as well as cases with a psychiatric aspect in general.

John is currently the Director of Training and Education for the Faculty of Advocates and is responsible for the training of all devils as well as the Continuing Professional Development for all members of Faculty. He sits on a number of national committees relating to the policy and future of legal training in Scotland. John is a CEDR accredited mediator.
