Louis Bendle

Louis graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 2020 with an LL.B (First Class) in Scots Law, and in 2021 with distinction on the Postgraduate Diploma in Professional Legal Practice. He trained at a court-based firm in Edinburgh, qualifying as a solicitor in 2023. During his traineeship, Louis was regularly exposed to court work at all levels, including the UK Supreme Court.
Since calling to the Bar, Louis has built up a busy trials and appeals practice in a broad range of areas. He has conducted numerous solemn sentence appeals as junior counsel alone. Louis has also been instructed in a range of High Court trials, including murder and attempted murder, serious sexual offending, serious organised crime, drugs offences, and fraud.
He is available for instruction in all of Black Chambers’ principal areas of expertise, as junior counsel acting alone, or as a junior to senior counsel.

HM Advocate v AF [2024]: historic sexual abuse of 5 complainers with libel spanning 40 years (junior counsel to Ian Duguid KC).

HM Advocate v AH & Others [2025]: complex and high-value fraud trial which ran for 13 weeks, involving former NHS employees (junior counsel to Keith Stewart KC).
HM Advocate v DP [2025]: plea by s.76 procedure to concern in the supply of cocaine in the High Court. Client was given a community payback order as a direct alternative to custody (junior counsel alone).
Scottish COVID-19 Inquiry: representing the Scottish Police Federation (junior counsel to Shelagh McCall KC).
